recently learned some interesting things about vagus nerve stimulation that I wanted to share. Vagus nerve stimulation is a neuromodulation therapy that has been developed to treat conditions like epilepsy and treatment-resistant depression. There are several types of VNS devices and therapies available, including implantable VNS devices which are surgically placed for continuous therapy, external VNS devices which are non-invasive, VNS for epilepsy which reduces seizure frequency, VNS for depression which is for treatment-resistant depression, and closed-loop VNS which responds to physiological signals. These devices consist of a pulse generator and a lead that is wrapped around the vagus nerve.
